The PR ceremony included a red carpet walk for the green baize giants then they enjoyed the boat cruise through the Shekou area of Shenzhen in the Guangdong province, a city of 17 million people. Mark Williams defends the title in the tournament which was staged in Xi’an last year.

Last year’s runner-up Shaun Murphy said: “It’s very exciting to be in Shenzhen and it’s all off the back of (local favourite) Zhao Xintong and his success in the last few seasons.  We are right in the thick of the season now, you can’t get too disappointed with a loss, you have to keep going and hope it’s your week to be stood there at the end with the trophy.”

China Open champion Mark Selby added: “It’s probably the best start I have ever had to a season, I usually work my way into it slowly. Winning the China Open has set me up for the season and taken the pressure off, so I can just go out there relaxed and try to enjoy it.”
